Antarctica and
the Sub-Antarctic Islands are some of the last truly unspoilt regions of
the world. Spectacular walls of ice, glaciers and gigantic icebergs
offer unparalleled scenery and photographic opportunities thus making
Antarctica a fascinating place to visit, both above and below the
shoreline. It is also a region inhabited by whales, seals, and colonies
of thousands of penguins. In Antarctica, no two days are alike - every
landing is a surprise and ultimately, an unforgettable experience.
Our small group
cruises are mainly from November until April, taking full advantage of
the 24 hours of sunlight during the austral summer. Ice strengthened
hulls and state-of-the-art equipment allow us to navigate safely through
the pack ice and narrow waterways. Our zodiac excursions, guided by
foremost Antarctic experts, offer the freedom to explore remote
locations, and observe Antarctica's abundant wildlife.
Our itineraries include the
Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands, Falkland Islands (Malvinas),
South Georgia, South Orkney Islands, South Sandwich Islands and remote
Bouvet Island. The Atlantic Odyssey trip features islands seldom visited
such as Tristan da Cunha, St. Helena and Ascension. On our excursions
you are likely to see Minke whales, elephant and leopard seals,
different species of penguins, a large number of seabirds including the
albatross, petrel, shearwaters and blue-eyed cormorants. |

DIVING AS
AN OPTIONAL EXTRA
During the
voyages, experienced dry suit divers will have the opportunity to
explore the wildlife from below the water, and we plan at least one
dive a day, so you have plenty of time to join the group for the
daily land excursions. We offer ice diving as an optional extra to
two of our Arctic voyages and to one of our Antarctic voyages, as
there is so much to offer topside as well!
The dives
vary from shallow ice diving, whereby we dive along the ice-floes or
dive under the sheets of ice (approx. 30 feet) to shore diving at
30-60 feet. The combination of sunlight, sea water and the
extraordinary formations of ice, causes an ever-changing spectre of
colours, with a fantastic variety of shades and brilliance. Whilst
snorkelling or diving along the ice-floes, you will be fascinated by
the unforgettable deep blue colours and formations.
Diving
offers a wide variety of interesting marine life, such as
sea-snails, crabs, sea butterflies, fish, horse-tails, jelly-fish,
sea-hedgehogs and starfishes, not to mention the seals and walruses.
In North Spitsbergen we will dive in the kelp forests and observe
the anemones, sea cucumbers, shrimps and explore the pelagic life.
On every dive you will be accompanied by a PADI divemaster making
your dive a truly unique and safe experience. |
